The beaches of the Costa Daurada
The coastline of the Costa Dorada comprises a total of 13 municipalities, which along 92 kilometers sixty beaches offer everything from small coves in Mont-Roig del Camp -Miami Beach cliffs Torredembarra, or a high percentage of iodine in the area Vendrell - Comarruga with fine sand and shallow in Salou and even naturist beaches and beach Time Hospitalet de l'Infant.
Many of the beaches of the Gold Coast have been awarded the blue flag of the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, in addition to other awards, including the distinction obtained by Creixell beach accessible to disabled persons granted this entity or Ecoplayas award for clean beaches and sustainable or certified by the ISO 14001 environmental management standard on the beaches of Calafell. As for awards, notably the towns of Calafell, Salou, Cambrils and La Pineda are certified as family tourism destinations by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
The Gold Coast is known for being a pioneer in the environmental management of its beaches. Calafell municpi was the first in Catalonia to obtain ISO certification for adaptation to the beaches of the Environmental Management System. At present, four municipalities have achieved ISO certification; Roda de Bara, Creixell, Torredembarra, Salou, Tarragona, L'Hospitalet de l'Infant and others are being processed.
The municipality of Torredembarra has achieved also EMAS certification for the environmental management of its beaches awarded by the Department of Environment of the Generalitat of Catalonia, which has become the first town in Catalonia in obtaining this distinction, the 'followed municipalities Calafell Roda de Bara and L'Hospitalet de l'infant.
It should be noted also that all municipalities along the Costa Daurada have one or more beaches awarded the Blue Flag, the international repercussions label guarantees that the beaches meet certain requirements for water quality, the existence of health zones adequate rescue services, lifesaving and first aid, etc. Creixell also received special recognition by the body's Blue Flag accessibility for people with disabilities by removing architectural barriers on its beaches and in 2006 was honored with the award granted by Ecoplayas ARTEGRUS.
